This is the painting that I’ll be doing my demonstration on for the upcoming La Cloche Art Show. I’m so excited to share my process with you!
My reference photo. There are a few adjustments that I want to make for the painting. Make a more gradated sky to help give perspective, and the dimension of my painting will not be as panoramic as this photo. I like the punched up colours in the rocks and greenery. I plan to have one of the two major trees taller than the other as well.
Mark off centres on masking tape and then 1/4 and 1/8 from centre. Can do this also on your reference photo or make grids on your computer app for transferring image to paper. the 1/8 from centre is very close to the ‘golden section’ . I use The golden section and rule of thirds, so somewhere in those areas for your focal points.
Blended with my blender. I’ll apply another layer or two overtop until I achieve the desired texture.
I feel as though I’d like to cut the reference in half; and take both left and right to squeeze in. So I’ll paint the right side of the trees and rocks, and then later do the left side.
Time to put the other trees in now. I thinking that I want the left tree to be taller. I also want to make sure they aren’t the same shape. ( I so often fall into making my shapes too similar) Variety will make it more interesting. I’ll ponder whether they need further adjustment.
